Wed, 14 October 2009 Saying Hello to "Hello”
English has a lot of intonation on syllables, which sometimes can change meaning. I chose the word “hello” to demonstrate this.
I have recorded the pronunciation of each example along with a full sentence that explains the meaning. My advice is to listen and copy the pronunciation.

I accept your "sincere-toned thank you" with a happy-toned "you're welcome"
Also, Thanks Carrie, I believe it is certainly the case in German, and maybe French. Of course Chinese is all about correct tones or meaning changes dramatically:
for example just two different tones for "ma" and you get:
妈=ma (high tone) = mother
马=ma(down and up tone) = horse
I hope I never call my mother a horse! haha
and thanks Dawn for your kind contribution, glad you liked my podcast also.

I just had some time to download both the text and the recording and listen to it with reading the text very carefully. I just realized that I was a bit late for reading and hearing such an interesting postcard.
I prefer the part of saying hello to a doggie and a young girl much more in your interesting recording. It sounded funny and interesting, ha
Bye
